A reminder that the closing date for applications for this year's awards is
fast approaching - 31 May.
The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, together
with The Charlesworth Group, is pleased to announce four Awards which
recognise significant achievement in the field of learned and professional
publishing.
The Awards are international and open to all publishers, societies and
journal owners based anywhere in the world, whether not-for-profit or
commercial, regardless of size. A panel of independent experts will judge
the applications. The winners will be announced at the Annual Dinner of the
Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers in London on 13
September 2007.

AWARD FOR BEST LEARNED JOURNAL
To be eligible a journal must be in print form and consist primarily of
peer-reviewed scholarly research articles. This award recognises outstanding
design, including cover, layout, typography and ease of use for both reader
and librarian. Close attention will be given to the suitability of a
journal's design to its users - whether it is 'fit for purpose'.
WIN A TRIP TO CHINA!
This fantastic prize will be awarded to the winner of the Best Learned
Journal
category. The prize, provided by The Charlesworth Group, includes return
flights, accommodation in Beijing, attendance at events plus sightseeing
excursions. Entry to the Beijing International Book Fair and a visit to
Charlesworth China offices will also be included as part of the trip.
AWARD FOR BEST ONLINE JOURNAL
To be eligible, a journal must be online and consist primarily of peer
reviewed scholarly research articles. It may be new, relaunched or well
established. The key features of the journal to be considered by the judges
will be: the overall visual appearance; user centricity such as ease of
navigation, search facilities, download options, page load time and
compliance with accessibility regulations.
AWARD FOR PUBLISHING INNOVATION
The nature of learned and professional publishing is changing faster than
ever before, and this is an Award for a significantly innovative approach to
any aspect of publication. Any area of innovation is eligible - it could,
for example, be a novel type of print or electronic publication or service,
or even a radically different approach to a marketing campaign.
AWARD FOR BEST NEW JOURNAL
This award, new for 2007, is open to journals launched within the last 3
years. The journal may be print, online or both but must include a
substantial number of peer reviewed articles. The judges will consider the
success of the journal as a whole, including the timeliness of its launch,
success in attracting papers and opportunities for future development.
