On Friday 1 June, RNIB South West are running another day course in access technology. This is a chance to get real hands-on experience and discuss access technology issues that are relevant to you and your clients. Details are:
Title: Transcription - Using a PC to provide blind and partially sighted people with accessible information
An intermediate level course aimed at visually impaired people or those who are working with visually impaired people. It is open to professionals and private individuals of all ages. It will be of particular interest to people working in employment, education, and community settings.
This course will provide the opportunity to learn and practise the basic methods by which inaccessible information can be transcribed, using a personal computer, into formats that are accessible to blind and partially sighted people.
Course content:
·What is an accessible format?
·Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software
·Producing Clear Print, Large Print, and Braille
·DAISY digital audio format
·Screen reading and screen magnification software
·Hands-on experience - using specialist software and computers
.Sourcing accessible materials - revealweb and other sources
·Question and Answer session - bring along specific queries
