Just to add further minority international perspectives, in Australia we use digitise and digitisation (if Microsoft stops substituting the s for a z).
I have to admit the alternatives that have been discussed on the list I had put down to being Americanisms!

Dear Michele,
Was the speaker's first language English?
In Spanish (and other Romance languages) we say 'digitalizar'. So, I'm guessing that a French/Italian/Spanish speaker or a person who has worked with these other languages might have done a literal translation into English... Hence digitalisation instead of digitisation...
I've come across a EU site which uses digitalisation. This makes me think that this form of the term is possibly being used in 'International English'... See http://ec.europa.eu/idabc/en/document/5745/254 I'll stick to digitisation.
Oops... The Oxford English Dictionary shows both terms at http://dictionary.oed.com/cgi/entry/00297303?single=1&query_type=word&queryword=digitization&first=1&max_to_show=10

Here at the National Archives, also in Kew, we always refer to this process as digitisation. It sounds rather clumsy to say digitalisation.

Subject: Digitisation vs Digitalisation
Dear All,
This may seem a strange question, but I always thought that the
process of digitising was called 'digitisation' and this is the word we
have used here at Kew for our projects; however, I have recently heard
others mention it as 'digitalisation' including a speaker at a conference
recently. Is there a 'correct' way of saying this or are they both correct?
What is used generally for this kind of project?
Thanks
Michele Losse
