Dear all,
Recently, a number of us have been talking about establishing a Decision
Analysis (DA) Special Interest Group under the umbrella of the OR
Society.
The stimulus for this is the observation that there are a number of
people with interest in, experience of and enthusiasm for DA approaches
within the UK. But there is no forum where people can come together and
share ideas and experiences.
From the conversations we have had, it seems to us that there is a space
for a practice-oriented group, centred around helping people apply DA to
real problems faced by public and private sector organisations. In
order to explore this, we are convening a workshop at the LSE on Monday
4th June, and would like to invite you to attend.
The format will be a number of talks by speakers with extensive
experience of using Decision Analysis in a range of industries and
environments. The purpose will be 1) to familiarise people with some of
the initiatives currently taking place; 2) to get people thinking about
how to promote the use of DA approaches; and 3) to explore whether it is
worth setting up a permanent group.
The program for the workshop will be
1030-1045 Welcome
1045-1145 Decision Analysis case studies:
Decision Conferencing in Defence (Captain Malcolm Cree, Royal Navy)
An object-oriented approach to technology and deployment decisions: an
aerospace example (Andy Harrison, Smith Bayes)
1145-1230 Chaired discussion
1230-1400 Break for lunch
1400-1500 Selling Decision Analytic consultancy (Jan Paul van
Driel, Strategic Decisions Group)

The venue will be in room G1 in the 20 Kingsway Building at the LSE
(note that the entrance to this building is in Portugal St
