The RSS 2007 Conference at the University of York in July is promising
to be a busy and exciting event.

The conference theme of 'Statistics and public policy-making' has proved
a popular choice with nearly 200 papers - either plenary, invited,
contributed or poster - accepted for presentation across a wide range of
topics including crime, epidemics, health policy, trust in statistics,
randomised trials in policy and neighbourhood statistics.

With speakers including Jack Straw MP, Adrian Smith, Peter Hennessy,
Denise Lievesley, Dennis Gillings, David Cox, Sheila Bird, Stephen
Fienberg, Ian Kennedy, Christl Donnelly, David Rhind, Harvey Goldstein,
Tony O'Hagan and Hans Rosling, there are sure to be plenty of
thought-provoking debates in sessions, over lunch and later in the bar!

In addition two short courses:

- Introduction to infectious disease models
- Randomised trials for policy evaluation

and a workshop on Methods for research synthesis will run on Monday 16
July prior to the opening of the main conference on 17 July.

For career-young statisticians there is the alternative of a one-day
training camp on the Monday featuring insightful presentations from
leading statisticians across a range of fields relating to public
policy-making.

The evenings during conference week will see delegates sampling
hospitality at some distinctive local venues, including a boat trip on
the river Ouse, a reception at the Castle Museum, and the conference
dinner at York Racecourse.  In between there will be an evening wine
reception for viewing the poster presentations followed by a barbecue
and ceilidh.
