Södertörns högskola (Södertörn University College) south of Stockholm
in Sweden has expanded from 1 200 students in 1996 to over 12 000
students currently. There are 750 employees of which over half are
teachers and researchers.
Our main site, including the new Moa Building and the University
Library, is in Flemingsberg, with an additional site in Haninge.
Södertörns högskola offers a wide range of academic programmes and
undertakes research in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Technology,
Education and Life Sciences. We enjoy a close co-operation with
Karolinska Institute (KI), the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and
Karolinska University Hospital.
We are now recruiting a professor in Media Technology with a
specialisation in interaction design.

Media Technology is a multidisciplinary discipline within the School of
Communication, Technology and Design. Within the academic school, there
is close cooperation between the Department of Media Technology and the
Department of Tourism Studies.
Media Technology is the second largest discipline at Södertörns
högskola and one of the largest environments for teaching and research
into Media Technology in Sweden. The focus within the department is on
digital experiences, social interaction and cooperation via media
technology and interactive media. Information technology, communication
and design are central fields of study.
Research is based on four multidisciplinary themes: ICT and learning,
interactive media and virtual environments, interaction design, and ICT
and work. The research and cooperation platform, Man, Medium, Machine
(M3) brings together these themes. Media Technology is taught at
undergraduate level, and at advanced level through the one-year
Master’s programme, Media Technology and Interaction Design.
The discipline is also integrated into several academic programmes and
is the main field of study in the undergraduate programme ICT, Media
and Design.
Areas of responsibility
The position includes teaching, supervision and course development at
undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as research and
administrative duties.
The successful candidate will be required to prepare for the
introduction of doctoral studies in Media Technology at the university
college. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to
participate in partnerships with the surrounding community and have a
well-developed network both within Sweden and internationally.
The opportunity to conduct research is dependent on the candidate’s
ability to attract external funding.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate research and
teaching experience appropriate for the rank of professor.

For the current appointment, the following criteria, in the following
order, have been determined:
1. Equal importance will be attached to the candidate’s competence in
teaching and research.
2. Internationally proven academic competence within the fields of
media technology, interaction design, human-computer interaction,
ubiquitous computing, physical interfaces, game design, mobile
services, game studies and creation tools.
3. Proven experience from initiating, leading and coordinating research
projects, ideally in collaboration with the business community.
4. Proven experience of building partnerships with the surrounding
community, in particular with regard to applied research.
5. Proven experience of supervising doctoral and Master’s students.
6. Proven ability to work as a member of a team.
7. Proven experience of planning, conducting and developing courses,
particularly at Master’s and doctoral level, in interaction design,
media technology and multimedia.
8. Proven experience from initiating and leading multidisciplinary
research.
9. Proven administrative ability.
10. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of the discipline, the
candidate should have an understanding of, and interest in,
perspectives from the Humanities, Social Sciences and Technology.

The appointment is full-time until further notice. The appointment is
