MGM in Wales News Update

Welsh museums come to life after dark
Museums and Galleries in Wales came to life after dark this weekend as
part of Museums at Night weekend (18 to 20 May 2007).

A great way to show the diversity of museums and galleries, Judges
Lodgings and Swansea Museum decided to became cinemas for the night on
Saturday 19 May, offering people the chance to see the hit film Night at
the Museum starring Ben Stiller and Ricky Gervais for free. Powysland also
opened its doors for special late night tours, story telling and
activities by candlelight. Information about Museums at Night can be
found at www.mgm.org.uk.

MGM survey raises some interesting results

Welsh museum goers revealed their love for literary greats, TV stars and
singers in the MGM survey to uncover how Welsh people today would like to
remember the past and present, and be remembered by future generations.

Asking which figure from the past, featured in a museum, would Welsh
people most like to bring back to life, da Vinci and Austen were amongst
the most popular choices, surprisingly ranked above Dylan Thomas.

When asked what and who from 2007 should be preserved in museums of the
future, the singer Lily Allen and the ipod were voted the most
representative of our time, and what future generations will identify us
by.

Another surprise was that a quarter of Welsh people would like to see the
Routemaster bus out of the museum and back onto the roads, even though
Wales has never had Routemaster buses. Full results of the survey are on
www.mgm.org.uk.

MGM in the media

The special Western Mail Where in Wales quiz continues daily, designed to
raise the profile of MGM and individual museums and galleries across
Wales. Readers are able to test their knowledge of sites of special
interest across Wales. If you are yet to see it, check out the Coffee
Time page every day in the Western Mail.

News articles, advertisements, interviews and much more have also been
secured, so thank you to all those who have been sending information about
their events to local press. It has all added up to a higher profile for
MGM and Welsh museums and galleries in the media.

More events lined up

There are still some great events happening between now and the end of
May, including:
A special identity finding day at Newport Museum and Art Gallery;
A chance for children to find out how people lived and worked in the
kitchens of Penrhyn Castle;
The chance to take part in a medieval tournament at Cadicot Castle;
An event at Wrexham County Borough Museum for children to play their part
in the making of the biggest gold chain in the Borough.

Evaluation

As we move into the final few weeks of Museums and Galleries Month in
Wales we hope you have been able to use the Month to try something new and
attract more visitors.

Don’t forget to also tell us about your experiences of MGM 2007. Make
sure to send us copies of any media coverage and also details of visitor
numbers and visitor feedback at the end of MGM. For help with this
evaluation, information and guidance, visit the Inspiring Learning For All
website (www.inspiringlearningforall.gov.uk), or contact Lesley-Anne Kerr
at CyMAL.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

MGM yng Nghymru y Newyddion Diweddaraf

Amgueddfeydd Cymru’n dod yn fyw gyda’r nos

Daeth Amgueddfeydd ac Orielau yng Nghymru yn fyw gyda’r nos y penwythnos
yma fel rhan o benwythnos Amgueddfeydd gyda’r Nos (18 i 20 Mai 2007).

Yn ffordd wych o ddangos amrywiaeth amgueddfeydd ac orielau, penderfynodd
Llety’r Barnwr ac Amgueddfa Abertawe ddod yn sinemâu am y noson nos Sadwrn
19 Mai, gan gynnig y cyfle i bobl weld y ffilm boblogaidd Night at the
Museum gyda Ben Stiller a Ricky Gervais yn rhad ac am ddim. Hefyd agorodd
Powysland ei ddrysau ar gyfer teithiau arbennig hwyr y nos, adrodd straeon
a gweithgareddau yng ngoleuni canhwyllau. Mae gwybodaeth am Amgueddfeydd
gyda’r Nos i’w gweld yn www.mgm.org.uk.

Arolwg MGM yn codi canlyniadau diddorol

Datgelodd mynychwyr amgueddfeydd yng Nghymru eu cariad at fawrion
llenyddiaeth, sêr teledu a chantorion yn arolwg MGM i ddangos sut fyddai
pobl Cymru heddiw yn hoffi cofio’r gorffennol a’r presennol, a chael eu
cofio gan genedlaethau’r dyfodol.

Gan ofyn pa ffigur o’r gorffennol, a welir mewn amgueddfa, fyddai pobl
Cymru am ddod â nhw’n ôl yn fyw orau, roedd da Vinci ac Austen ymhlith y
dewisiadau mwyaf poblogaidd, a syndod oedd iddynt ddod uwchlaw Dylan
Thomas.

Pan ofynnwyd beth a phwy o 2007 ddylai gael eu cadw mewn amgueddfeydd y
dyfodol, cafodd y gantores Lily Allen a’r ipod eu pleidleisio fel bod yn
fwyaf cynrychioliadol o’n hoes ni, a’r hyn y bydd cenedlaethau’r dyfodol
yn eu cysylltu â ni.

Syndod arall oedd yr hoffai chwarter o’r Cymry weld bws Routemaster allan
o’r amgueddfa ac yn ôl ar y ffordd, er nad yw Cymru erioed wedi cael
bysiau Routemaster. Am fanylion llawn yr arolwg, ewch i www.mgm.org.uk.

MGM yn y cyfryngau

Mae cwis arbennig y Western Mail Where in Wales yn parhau bob dydd, wedi
ei ddylunio i godi proffil MGM ac amgueddfeydd ac orielau unigol ledled
Cymru. Mae darllenwyr yn gallu rhoi prawf ar eu gwybodaeth o safleoedd o
ddiddordeb arbennig ar draws Cymru. Os nad ydych chi wedi ei weld eto,
cymerwch gip ar dudalen Coffee Time bob dydd yn y Western Mail.

Mae erthyglau newyddion, hysbysebion, cyfweliadau a llawer iawn mwy wedi
eu sicrhau, felly diolch i bawb sydd wedi bod yn anfon gwybodaeth am eu
digwyddiadau i’r wasg leol. Mae’r cyfan wedi arwain at broffil uwch i MGM
ac i amgueddfeydd ac orielau Cymru yn y cyfryngau.

Mwy o ddigwyddiadau ar y gweill

Mae rhai digwyddiadau difyr yn dal i ddigwydd rhwng nawr a diwedd Mai, gan
gynnwys:
Diwrnod arbennig dod o hyd i hunaniaeth yn Amgueddfa ac Oriel Gelf
Casnewydd;
Cyfle i blant ddarganfod sut roedd pobl yn byw ac yn gweithio yng
ngheginau Penrhyn;
Y cyfle i gymryd rhan mewn twrnamaint canoloesol yng Nghastell Cadicot;
Digwyddiad yn Amgueddfa Bwrdeistref Sirol Wrecsam i blant chwarae eu rhan
wrth for wneud y gadwyn aur fwyaf yn y Fwrdeistref.

Gwerthuso

Wrth i ni symud tuag at wythnosau olaf Mis Amgueddfeydd ac Orielau yng
Nghymru gobeithiwn eich bod chi wedi gallu defnyddio’r Mis i roi cynnig ar
rywbeth newydd a denu mwy o ymwelwyr.

Cofiwch ddweud wrthyn ni am eich profiadau o MGM 2007. Gwnewch yn siŵr
eich bod yn anfon copïau aton ni o unrhyw sylw a gawsoch chi yn y wasg a
hefyd fanylion niferoedd ymwelwyr ac adborth ymwelwyr ar ddiwedd MGM. Am
help gyda’r gwerthusiad hwn, gwybodaeth ac arweiniad, ewch i wefan
Inspiring Learning For All (www.inspiringlearningforall.gov.uk), neu
cysylltwch â Lesley-Anne Kerr yn CyMAL.

Edrychwn ymlaen at glywed oddi wrthych chi.
