Here at Luton we use Bloxx. We have a separate domain for the library service, allowing us much greater flexibility and timeliness in dealing with requests for blocking or unblocking sites. Library staff can access Bloxx to make changes immediately for customers. The only slight hitch we have had is the word scoring that Bloxx uses, it has thrown up some interesting problems, such as pages on Tony Hancock the comedian being blocked, and the page on Battersea Dogs Home about rehoming of dogs, which used the words "sex" and "bitch" to describe the dogs available for rehoming which led to a very high score and hence the page was blocked!

Traffic over our council network is filtered though Equinet Cache Pilots.
Because we managed to convince our IT people that the reasonable
expectations and requirements of the general public are rather different
from those of staff, we have separate Cache Pilots for the public PCs, and
it is mainly library staff who control the blocking/unblocking of sites and
categories of sites. I suspect we are in a more fortunate position than
most.

Please respond to
Michael Stuart
Have you had access restricted by Council filtering systems? If you've
found a satisfactory solution that keeps everyone happy we'd like to hear
from you. Our library users are denied access to sites and search terms for
a range of subjects including alcohol and anti-government groups, although
these can be lifted on a case-by-case basis. We wish to make access easier.
I will share a summary of responses for all to see.
