Ola a todos/as,
Para os que traballedes en temas medievais, quizais vos resulte de
interese esta información que -extractada- vos envío. No 43º Congreso de
estudos medievais de Kalamazoo (8-10 maio 2008), sobre todo no que se
refire á mesa II "Language and Identity in the Iberian Middle Ages",
Gabriel

Below you will find a more detailed description of the two sessions
sponsored by the HSMS for the 43^rd International Congress on Medieval
Studies (Kalamazoo, May 8-10, 2008). Please, help me spread the word and
inform your colleagues, advanced graduate students and friends about
next year's sessions. The Call for Papers will be sent some time in late
June or early July, and the deadline for submissions is October 1, as
always.

If you are interested in participating again as a panelist or wish to
deliver a paper, please, keep an eye on the upcoming Call for Papers,
which will be posted at the Medieval Institute's webpage
(http://www.wmich.edu/medieval/congress/index.html).
The Hispanic Seminary of Medieval Studies will sponsor the following two
sessions at the 43^rd International Congress on Medieval Studies
(Kalamazoo, May 8-10, 2008):
*I. Roundtable on Resources for Teaching the "History of the Spanish
Language"*: This roundtable discussion comes on the coattails of a very
successful roundtable session at the 42nd congress, in which five
leading scholars in the subject debated the challenges of teaching the
History of the Spanish Language course and evaluated the necessary
elements in a textbook for such course. Both the undergraduate and
graduate Spanish curricula at U.S. universities have experienced
significant changes in the past twenty years, which have brought into
question the place of Hispanic Philology and Historical Linguistics in a
Spanish degree. The HSMS seeks to enliven the debate about the place
these two disciplines have in the formation of future teachers and
medieval scholars. For the 43rd congress the focus will be the resources
to teach the "History of the Spanish Language" course, which include,
but are not limited to, primary sources from Indo-European to the
present, maps, and multi-media resources. The source, form, extension,
language, and quantity of these resources will be the focal point of the
discussion.
*II. Language and Identity in the Iberian Middle Ages*: This session
reflects the growing interest in Medieval Iberia as a pluri-linguistic
and multi-cultural space, in which different cultures and languages
coexist, more or less peacefully. The session seeks to bring the
disciplines of linguistics, literature and cultural studies into
dialogue on the topic of the relationship between language and identity
in Medieval Iberia. Papers on any of the different languages of Medieval
Iberia and the interrelationship between language and personal or
cultural identity will be welcome.
Please, keep our sessions in mind for next year's congress and spread
the word about this wonderful venue for fellowship, the presentation of
high-quality scholarship, and the dynamic exchange of ideas.
Best wishes to all of you and I hope to see you again in the near future,
Pablo
