The Position of God in Kant's Moral System:
A symposium to be held at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, Margaret Street, Birmingham, B3 3BX.

The purpose of the symposium is to explore the status of God in Kant's moral framework as revealed through his own texts, and as discussed by a diversity of commentators. His writing on religion has been variously interpreted as a pragmatic appeasement by an agnostic to the political establishment of his day, as a positive affirmation of the Christian faith, and as the springboard for modern atheism. We hope to have a useful, structured discussion of these issues, focusing particularly but not exclusively on the Second Critique and Religion within the Bounds of Mere Reason.
There will be opportunities to present short papers, followed by informal discussion. Papers are invited from philosophers, including postgraduates, with an interest in this area, and should be 20 minutes long, accompanied by a 250 word abstract. They should be submitted by Thursday 24th May to:
