PRESS RELEASE
Commission welcomes political agreement to cap mobile roaming charges in
Europe as from summer (23 May 2007)On 23 May, the European Parliament,
in its plenary session in Strasbourg, voted with a strong majority in
favour of an EU Regulation to substantially reduce the charges for using
mobile phones abroad. This EU Regulation, which the European Commission
proposed on 12 July 2006, was broadly supported by representatives of
the 27 EU Member States last week. It will now enter into force before
EU citizens enjoy their summer holidays.

Council of Audiovisual Ministers on 24 May: Political agreement expected
on "Audiovisual Media Services without frontiers" Directive (23 May
2007)The EU "Education, Youth Affairs and Culture" Council will meet on
24-25 May 2007 in Brussels. For the audiovisual and media items on the
agenda on 24 May, the Commission will be represented by Viviane Reding,
Commissioner for Information Society and Media. At this Council,
political agreement is expected on one of the priorities of the
Commission and of the German Presidency: the Audiovisual Media Services
without frontiers (AVMS) Directive.

International IT security conference "Innovation and Responsibility"
4 June 2007 - 5 June 2007 Berlin, GermanyThis event is hosted by the
German Federal Ministry of the Interior under Germany's EU Council
Presidency. In six tracks, the conference will look into
responsibilities for the protection of data, information and IT
infrastructures, taking into account rapid technological developments
and increasing threats. ENISA has been asked by the European Commission
to deliver a feasibility study on a Europe-wide sharing system for
Network and Information Security related information to
end-users/citizens and SMEs, to raise IT security awareness and close
gaps in the coverage with such information. The final report on the
EISAS (European Information Sharing and Alert System) will be presented
and discussed at this event.

24 May 2007 Brussels, BelgiumThis information event covers the second
call for proposals under the e-Infrastructures topic of the FP7
"Capacities" Specific Programme. It will focus on : e-Science Grid
Infrastructures (INFRA-2007-1.2.3) ; Studies, conferences and
coordination actions supporting policy development, including
international cooperation (INFRA-2007-3.1.3). Further details will also
be given on submission and evaluation.
The participation to the event is free of charge but the number of
places is limited. Registration is therefore highly encouraged.
