OK, I saw this today with John in Cambridge first-hand. So I have some
data to reproduce things, if nothing else. ;-) It looks like something
pathologic is happening in the C world with the function fit.
My first recommendation is to use the last function in our list for
fitting (a quadratic solution to a first-order binding). The single
parameter fit isn't terribly terrific in any case.
If we get stuck here then we might ask you for some data, but otherwise
bear with us while we attempt to fix...
