The London Region of the Society of Archivists is now taking bookings for the following event:
Data Protection for Archivists and Records Managers

This course is designed to provide participants with guidance regarding Data Protection legislation, looking specifically at its relevance for Archivists and Records Managers. The morning will include hearing about the experiences of an Archives and Records Manager to provide delegates with guidance on the practical implementation of the Act. There will also be opportunity for delegates to discuss issues that they are currently facing, have come across in the past or may face in the future.
The event aims to provide participants with:
* A solid understanding of the Act and the relevance of the eight data principles to Archivists and Records Managers, drawing on the Joint Code of Practice
* Guidance on how to implement the Act with specific reference to access, cataloguing issues and the management of semi-current records
* A forum for discussion of the practical implementation of the Act

10.00-10.45 Data Protection and its relevance to Archivists (Susan Healey, TNA)
10.45-11.00 Tea/Coffee
11.00-11.30 Experiences of an Archives and Records Manager (Jan Booth, Records & Archives Manager, Kings College London)
11.30-12.20 Questions and Answers - a practical session providing delegates the opportunity to
ask speakers' advice and discuss their own experiences of implementing the Act
12.20-12.30 Summary and close
