ACADEMIC BIOSTATISTICIANS,
Biostatistics Core, NUS-NUH General Clinical Research Center (GCRC)
NUS-NUH GCRC seeks applications for full-time
academic positions of Clinical Research
Biostatisticians. The persons will be visionary,
high-energy individuals who relish the challenge
of developing the Biostatistics Core of the
NUS-NUH GCRC into a center of excellence and
innovation for the design and analyses of
clinical studies that change medical practice.
The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (YLL SoM),
National University of Singapore (NUS) and
National University Hospital (NUH) play major
roles in Singapore’s Biomedical Sciences
Initiatives. Located in Kent Ridge and minutes
from world-class R&D Institutes in Singapore’s
biomedical hub, Biopolis, NUS-NUH GCRC intends to
build on existing clinical trials infrastructure
to become the center of choice for
investigator-initiated studies, including early
phase interventional trials, surgical devices and biomarker validation.
Located in its own premises, NUS-NUH GCRC
proposes to be a comprehensive clinical research
center with in-house capabilities to
conceptualize, design, perform, and publish
highest quality clinical studies, especially in
the therapeutic areas related to cancer,
cardiovascular disease, infectious disease,
diabetes/metabolic diseases, and central nervous
disorders. The mission is to provide a seamless
facility to support clinical investigators,
drawing on the strengths of the entire
NUS-NUH-Biopolis scientific communities. The
NUS-NUH GCRC staff complements and facilitates
the work of existing teams with thriving clinical research programs.
A new team of Academic Biostatisticians is being
assembled to spearhead development of
Biostatistics Core, NUS-NUH GCRC. The
Biostatistics Core aims to be the platform for
academic biostatisticians to converge and
synergize so that NUS-NUH GCRC becomes a
recognized center for the design and analyses of
impactful clinical studies. A further objective
is to promote biostatistical research; generating
new methodologies to advance research that improve patient care.
Academic Biostatisticians are expected to have
concurrent faculty appointments at the Department
of Community, Occupational and Family Medicine
(COFM), YLL SoM. He/She, under direction of
Director GCRC, will have the responsibility to:
· Promote clinical research activity by
providing state-of-the-art statistical input into
the design, monitoring and analyses of patient-oriented studies
· Be an integral member of the writing
committee, and together with the principal
investigator, drive the publication of the manuscripts in high impact journals.
· Conduct vigorous research programs that
generate external funding and intellectual output
typical of a world class university
· Be involved teaching of biostatistics
and clinical trials modules to undergraduate and
postgraduate students and in supervising graduate students
Long term Challenges:
· To develop Biostatistics Core as the
preferred site for clinical researchers in need
of sophisticated biostatistical expertise
· To be a recognized center for the
development of novel methodologies relating to
study design, statistical methods of analysis,
and other clinical trials related issues,
· To increase resources from external
grants and industry funding to ensure sustainability of GCRC
Key Relationships:
· Director, NUS-NUH GCRC and existing NUS-NUH clinical research teams
· GCRC Steering Committee; Dean, YLL SoM;
and Chairman Medical Board, NUH; Head COFM
· Other biostatisticians and medical informatics experts in Singapore
Formal Education/Experience
· PhD in Medical Statistics/Statistics
· Track record of publications in reputed
clinical and biostatistical journals.
· Experience in biostatistical consultancy with Clinicians required.
