The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) invites
applications for the position of a
RESEARCHER ON EXTREME VALUES
The research will be done in the framework of the EU-funded project
ENSEMBLES (<http://www.ensembles-eu.org/>www.ensembles-eu.org), which
aims to develop a validated ensemble climate forecast system for use
across a range of timescales (seasonal, decadal and longer). In this
project the researcher will contribute to the statistical analysis of
extreme values in regional climate model simulations, in particular
the extremes of precipitation. Both the changes in extremes in the
future and the differences between the extremes simulated by the
regional climate models for the present climate and the observed
extremes are of interest. Collaboration with the University of Exeter
UK is aimed at.
A University degree (MSc, PhD) with advanced statistics is required
as well as interest in climate and climate change. Experience with
Fortran and/or R is also required.
Appointment for the duration of the project (until 1 September 2009).
