TWO VACANCIES FOR INVITED ASSISTANT PROFESSORS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF
INFORMATICS ENGINEERING OF THE FACULTY OF SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY
According to the first clause of the article 15 of the Regulation of
the Portuguese Higher Education Teaching Career, the Department of
Informatics Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of
the University of Coimbra intends to celebrate a non-tenure track
full-time work contract with two Portuguese or foreign individuals
with acknowledged excellence proven by a high quality scientific work
and curriculum, and also with a renowned competent performance in a
professional activity suitable for a job as invited assistant professor.
The applicants must have a PhD in Informatics engineering or another
area considered as equivalent by the scientific council of the
Faculty of Sciences and Technology. The degree must be acknowledged
in Portugal. Applicants should also possess (the potential for) an
excellent curriculum in the fields of teaching and research and be
strongly willing to participate in the Department’s duty activities.
Fluency in Portuguese and/or English is mandatory.
The criteria used to formalize the invitation are the following:
· Curricular analysis, with particular emphasis on scientific work,
teaching experience and compatibility with the Department’s activities.
· Analysis of the applicant’s motivation and his/her potential
contribution to the setting of the Department as an internationally
renowned school, bearing in mind the following: a motivation letter,
where the applicant will describe his/her future work; the opinion of
the mentioned references.
· Analysis of social competences- specifically teaching capacity,
team work and demand levels -based on an interview, curriculum vitae
and other documents.
Thus, the Department of Department of Informatics Engineering of the
Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra
invites all national or foreign individuals who gather the
requirements mentioned above to address an application to the
President of the Scientific Council of the Department of Informatics
Engineering of The Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the
University of Coimbra, Polo II, Pinhal de Marrocos, 3030-290 Coimbra,
until 30 of April 2007, referring to their personal data: full name,
address and phone number including also the following:
Complete Curriculum Vitae, including the list of publications;
Copy of the five most relevant publications;
A motivation letter where the applicant will describe the reasons for
his/her application, as well as his/her current research activity,
research plans for the future and teaching experience;
Indication of two references.
A three years full-time work contract will be celebrated with the
invited individuals, to start in September 2007. The contract may be
extended up to a period of 5 years in the category of invited
assistant professor of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the
University of Coimbra. The salary will be paid according to the
amount set by law for Portuguese higher education teaching staff.
There may be an additional extension of the contracts beyond the
predicted 5 years according to the institution needs and financial
means.
The received applications will be analysed in the terms of the 2nd
clause of article 15 of the Regulation of the Higher Education
Teaching Career and will be approved by the Scientific Council, under
the proposal of the Scientific Commission of the Department of
Informatics Engineering of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology.
The formal Invitations will be addressed to the chosen applicants
until 31th of May 2007.
