ILIG
THE INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY & INFORMATION GROUP OF CILIP
presents
TWO HALF-DAY SEMINARS
on
WEB 2.0
Facilitated by Phil Bradley (Internet Consultant)
Friday 4 May 2007
at CILIP,
7 Ridgmount Street, London WC1E 7AE,
9.45 - 12.45 and 13.30 - 16.30
Web 2.0 developments have international implications and are of key
relevance to all information professionals. The first seminar, a repeat of
the one held last October as a result of unprecedented demand, is aimed at
those who are just beginning to grapple with the possibilities. The
afternoon is for librarians who want to advance their understanding to a
higher and deeper level. The second seminar assumes a reasonable grounding
in Web 2.0 and is a suitable follow-up for delegates who attended Phil's
morning seminar hosted by ILIG last October or who attend the May morning
seminar.
Seminar One: 10.00 - 12.45 (registration 9.45)
Using Web 2.0 to improve information provision
Covers Web 2.0 and Library 2.0. Discusses how weblogs, new search tools,
RSS, instant messaging, podcasting, wikis, network pages, social
bookmarking, Flickr (and more!) can be used to enhance library services.
Final session for questions and discussion.
Seminar Two: 13.45 - 16.30 (registration 13.30)
Web 2.0 - the next steps
Turning weblogs into resource pages and using RSS feeds to keep clients up
to date. Assessing the comparative value of wikis, weblogs and portals to a
library service - which is most appropriate in what circumstances?
Additional Web 2.0 resources and overview of new material. Break out into
groups to discuss the use of the resources, assess their potential value
and how they can be introduced into a library environment. Final session
for feedback and questions.
