Hi,
rather new to all of this, so I hope I'm doing it right!
Just wondered what the general opinion of the group is about my current DSA
application.
I'm a mature student, with (due to my disability) no qualifications beyond
GCSEs. I am too disabled to attend any type of college/university -- even
part-time.
I have found a part-time distance learning course that I would like to do
which is an HND in Garden design. It is validated by Edexcel, and is worth
240 credits.
I believe I fulfil all the criteria necessary to be given the disabled
students allowance, EXCEPT that the college providing the course is not a
publicly funded institution, nor is it specifically designated by the
Secretary of State for education.
However, I am unable to find the equivalent course at any publicly funded
institution, or one specifically designated. I also feel that the fact that
it is an internationally recognised HND qualification should count in my
favour.
Is my Lea likely to give my application any consideration, and award a
discretionary grant, or is it a clearly cut, black-and-white case to which
the answer will be 'no'!
Many thanks for any advice anyone can offer,
posy
