AlphaGalileo is hoping to run a session at ESOF2008 covering all the
pressures on research coverage. We'd hope to cover in either via a
formal debate or perhaps by a series of speakers from the media, PR
and policy, these topics:
(a) editorial policy and news agendas;
(b) pressures from/advantages to commercial research companies eg
offering freebies;
(c) internal pressures, preventing news being disseminated by
research bodies; and
(d) pressures from the researcher funders - government, foundations,
etc.
Can anyone suggest a speaker on the historical aspect of this? by
historical I am imagining the 19th media response to 'Origin of
Species' for example or official policy towards Galileo.
Best wishes
