Web 2.0 and social networking have become part of our personal and
professional culture, seemingly overnight. This one day event will examine
the story behind Web 2.0 applications, will look at what they do, and will
consider some of the ramifications for those working in information
management. The course is designed for those with an interest in
understanding and using content management applications such as RSS,
YouTube, Wikis, Flickr, Blogs and Podcasts. No prior experience is needed,
but familiarity with using the web would be useful. All terms will be
explained, and the course content will be delivered by presentations,
demonstrations, discussion and hands-on time. A list of web-based follow-up
resources will be provided. The programme features are:
- Background to the Web and Web 2.0
- Social networking
- Terminology
- Innovations associated with Web 2.0 including Wikis, Weblogs, Mashups,
data syndication, folksonomies and tags
- Criticisms
- Relevance to information management
The aim of the course is to provide participants with an understanding of
what Web 2.0 is, how it is used, and how it could be developed with respect
to information management.
On completing this course, you will have an understanding of:
- the background to the Web and Web 2.0
- Social networking
- Terminology
- Innovations associated with Web 2.0 including Wikis, Weblogs, Mashups,
data syndication, folksonomies and tags
