Keynote Speaker: Deborah Shorley, University Librarian, University of Sussex.
Before Deborah took up her post as Librarian at the University of Sussex in October 2000, she had spent 24 years working in Northern Ireland. She began her professional career in 1977 at the Belfast Central Library. In 1981 she moved to Ulster Polytechnic (subsequently University of Ulster) where she was ultimately appointed Assistant Director, Information Services.
Throughout her career Deborah Shorley has been actively involved in professional activities. She has been Chair of ARLIS/UK & Ireland (the Art Libraries Society) and Chair, Library & Information Services Council (Northern Ireland). She was President of CILIP from March 2005 to March 2006 and frequently represents the profession overseas.
