Subject: Update on campaign to stop MoLAS job cuts
Dear all,
This is an update on the campaign to save the jobs at MoLAS threatened
with redundancy.
Many thanks to all of you who have signed the petition and taken it
around colleagues and others. We are still collecting petitions, so if
you haven't signed yet, please do so. Easter will be an ideal time to
make sure people know these damaging cuts are taking place and getting
their support. People can now send a message of support and add their
name to the petition opposing the cuts by emailing :

Ivor Noel Hume OBE, rescue archaeologist at MoLAS's predecessor the
Guildhall Museum from 1949 to 1957 and currently based in Virginia USA,
is one of the many people who have written to the Chairman of the Board
of Governors Michael Cassidy opposing the cuts.
Over 200 people have already signed the petition that was launched less
than two weeks ago. Many of these are colleagues from across the Museum
group. In addition, the journalist and writer Will Self has signed, as
well as individuals from English Heritage, the British Museum, the IFA,
National Museums of Scotland, the Cauthauld Institute of Art, Royal
Armouries Leeds, Potters Bar Museum, Hertsmere Museum Service, Spode
Museum, Cotswold Archaeology, Frien Barnet Local History Society,
Enfield Archaeology Society, Potters Bar District Historical Society,
the universities of Cambridge, Leicester, Bristol, Winchester, Plymouth
and Bradford, the Institute of Archaeology UCL, Birkbeck College, York
St John University, Brussels University, Sofia University, the
Archaeological Institute at Sofia, and Vozna Museum Bulgaria.
English Heritage, the Institute of Field Archaeologists, consultants and
clients have also all officially voiced their concerns.
Best wishes,
Antony.
