The Max-Planck-Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in
Leipzig is dedicated to research on cognitive faculties and brain
processes in humans. The Department of Neurophysics offers a
Cognitive Interface Engineer position (TVöD EG 11) for 5 years (renewable).
The Engineer will join a new team headed by Professor Robert Turner,
working on the structural and functional anatomy of the human cortex.
The role of the Engineer is to:
a) Create the MRI cognitive interface--the electronic hardware and
software applications for on-going fMRI and other neuroimaging projects.
b) Develop new methods in the field of cognitive interface engineering
in an MRI environment.
c) Maintain scanner and subject safety in accordance with ethics
regulations.
d) Produce manuals for use of cognitive interface equipment.
Facilities include a new Siemens 7 T whole-body scanner, with a powerful
head gradient coil and parallel rf transmit array, and two whole-body 3
T scanners. There are mechanical and electronic fabrication workshops.
Desired qualifications include:
An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in electronic
engineering, physics or a related area. A strong background in design
and construction of electronic hardware. Awareness of safety issues
related to MR imaging. Experience with C/C++ programming and MATLAB.
Experience with signal processing, small-scale mechanical construction,
and technical support. Experience with scientific research is desirable
but not a prerequisite.
For further details please contact Professor Robert Turner by email at
