Something that I thought was rather disturbing was what Kenneth Clark MP said on a recent BBC 'Question Time' programme.
Basically he was saying that what ever we do to combat climate change it must not affect the world economy. He went on to say that we should not cut back on things like flying, car maunfacture etc as these are all importants components of the world economy. Isn't this just capitalistic shortsightedness?
When will someone, in politics, have the guts to tell the West that they have to accept a lower standard of living as they their future depends on it?
Our present resource guzzling, planet harming, shalloww mindedness for the sake of having a good time attitude is unsustainable. Just because 'we' have a credit card mentality with regards to our arteficial economies we should not expect it to work with the real and natural world that does not obey the crass laws of economists.
