Here at the University of Botswana we would be very grateful for advice from
colleagues who may have drafted access policies incorporating agreements for
use of indigenous knowledge materials for both educational/personal use and
for use in commercial publications. What is the advice where a local
organization representing indigenous peoples, would like to use copies of
archival material commercially?
Although we acquired the collection by deed of gift and therefore own the
archive, how can we (should we?) legitimately control access to, and
reproduction of, records containing indigenous knowledge (mainly 1970s
photos and film of Bushmen / San people)?
Sending good wishes from hot dusty Botswana
