Medical Statistician (vacancy ref. 13125)

You will join a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the Department of
Social Medicine, one of the UK?s leading centres for epidemiology, health
services and public health research. You will work on two exciting projects
and will have the opportunity to develop your overall research skills,
contribute to written publications and present research findings at
national and international conferences.
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic statistician who will complete
analyses and contribute to research in two main areas: (a) Determining the
relationships of maternal diet during pregnancy and maternal genotype with
offspring fat mass, fat distribution and vascular function, using data from
the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) and (b)
Determine changes in average methadone dose over time and estimate opiate
overdose mortality rate during and in periods after methadone treatment,
using data from the General Practice Research Database (GPRD) and other
relevant data-sets.
You will work with an international team of experts from Bristol, Glasgow,
Exeter, Keele, London, Rome, Colorado and Cleveland Ohio. It is essential
that you have a good understanding of medical statistics, with an MSc or
PhD in this or a related subject. You will also have experience of using
one of the major statistical packages and a willingness to become familiar
with specialised statistical genetics tools/approaches.
If successful, you may be appointed either on a fixed term or a permanent
contract depending on the extent of your previous relevant research
experience.
