inviting PhD academic applications and studentship applications for
their two available ESRC Quota Studentships for the 2007/08 academic

ESRC Masters+PhD (1+3) and PhD (+3) Studentships
in Transport Economics or Transport
Planning/Environment
In recognition of its commitment to leading edge
inter-disciplinary research, the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS)
has been awarded two quota allocation ESRC studentships to fill from
September 2007. The studentships applies to either PhD training only (+3
award), or a combined Masters and PhD training (1+3 award). While the
Masters training recognition is in the areas of Transport Planning &

Transport Economics <http://www.its.leeds.ac.uk/pgcourses/mate.php> ,
for PhD research this encompasses a wide range of approaches and
methods, incorporating most application areas of transport analysis, as
well as being attractive to those from the full range of disciplines
supported by ESRC, including social science, economics and psychology.

Funding information:
Standard ESRC rules apply: The scholarships
cover fees plus maintenance for UK students (or EU students who have
studied in the UK for a sufficiently long period), fees-only for EU
students. Detailed eligibility criteria can be found on the ESRC

Non UK/EU nationals - This particular
competition is not eligible to international applicants. However, ITS
welcomes applications for an academic place at any time, and can advise
on available studentships.
The minimum academic requirement for entry to
PhD with an ESRC +3 scholarship is a Masters Degree with a research
training element. For entry to Masters+PhD (1+3 training), a First Class
or good Second Class Honours Degree is required. Proficiency in English
language is also required (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent).
