BLOGS AND WIKIS: AN ADVANCED GUIDE
24 April 2007, Birmingham
The increase in Web 2.0 applications that have been appearing in the last year are simple to use, and allow information professionals to make information available more quickly and effectively than ever before.
This course will examine many of these tools in a practical manner, allowing participants to explore ways in which shared search techniques, social bookmarking, saved data, wikis and other applications not only promote the information centre, but provide a richness and depth of information to their users that has not been possible until now.
As participants will need to register with various utilities they should have access to a web based email account such as Hotmail or Gmail if they are unable to access their usual work/home email accounts.
BY THE END OF DAY PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
¨ enhanced their use of blogs
¨ learnt how to use advanced information handling tools
¨ looked at the latest developments
¨ explored further practical methods to avoid duplication of output
¨ created their own wiki or added to an existing one
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Those who have had responsibility for current awareness or a selective dissemination service (SDS) for at least 3 years and/or those who need to promote their services.
