Just a reminder about the Music and Medicine event this Friday evening
which will be the first in a series of medical humanities meetings at the
Royal Society of Medicine(1 Wimpole Street, W1G 0AE).
The event is from 7-9pm (registration from 6:30pm) and the ticket price
has been reduced to £5 for non-medics. So far we have a attracted a
really diverse crowd including musicians, therapists and arts managers as
well as many neurologists and medics - and we've had to move the event
into a bigger hall due to high demand!
The aim of the evening is to explore the relationship between music and
medicine looking specifically at the links between music and wellbeing,
the use of music in the clinical setting, the physiological effects of
music and what music can tell us about the human brain. There will be two
speakers, Paul Robertson (Professor or Music and Medicine at the Peninsula
Medical School, ex-founder and leader of the Medici String Quartet and
international lecturer and broadcaster) and Dr Lauren Stewart (lecturer of
Neuropsychology at Goldsmiths College, University of London) followed by a
Q and A session. The event will be chaired by Vincent Walsh, a Professor
at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, UCL and Neuroscientist in
residence at the Royal Academy of Music.
If you'd like to attend, tickets can be booked on line via the following
link: http://www.rsm.ac.uk/students/studmeet.htm or purchased on the door.
Hope to see you there.
