At Wessex Archaeology, we use UGC in a low key way by allowing people to tag
our photos on Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/wessexarchaeology/
We have allowed user tagging of our photos for nearly 18 months, and have
found it to be very useful. The sorts of tags that people are adding, with
one or two childish exceptions, are very useful.
We often find ourselves using tags that are based upon archaeological
terminology, and the types of user-added tags are typically more accessible
words.
We have enabled comments on our blogs for about the same amount of time, but
people hardly ever make any.. All comments are moderated (when once in a
blue moon someone leaves one), and must be approved before they're allowed
to go live.
Cheers,
Tom
