in Hillingdon we, like many of you, buy multiple copies of media-promoted
tites such as Richard & Judy and the Orange Prize. We also have Quick
Choice collections with multiple copies of best sellers in. These books
issue incredibly well for a couple of months then they take up valuable
space on our fiction shelves as the interest has gone.
We do offer them to reading groups and are starting to use them in small
external collections, but this hasn't really solved the problem. We are
reluctant to sell them because of the potential for the public to complain
to councillors about new-ish books being sold off.
Has anyone got any ideas that have worked in their authority?
Apologies if this has been posted before - I couldn't find anything in the
archives, but may have searched under the wrong term.
