**CONFERENCE LETTER**

31 January 2007

We are pleased to invite you to the Twelfth Annual Humanitarian Conference
organized by the students and faculty of Webster University, Geneva, under the
Auspices of the Government of the Canton of Geneva.

The Spirit of Geneva in a Globalized World
15-16 February 2007

International Conference Center of Geneva
15, rue Varembé

Ever since the creation of the International Red Cross hundred fifty years ago
in Geneva, the “spirit of Geneva” has been the symbol of the attempts to
provide international protection and assistance to the victims of armed
conflict, persecution as well as natural disasters and of multilateral
diplomacy and international cooperation and for the search of peace in the
world. With the headquarters of the principal international humanitarian
organizations established here, Geneva is today the “recognized humanitarian
capital” in the world.

The central questions to be addressed at this year’s conference will be:
1. What is the relevance of the “spirit of Geneva” in the light of the new
global environment? 2. How is the “spirit of Geneva” being translated into
reality, how does it help protect and assist, how does it influence people’s
perception as well as policies and actions by different groups and state and
non-state actors and organizations? 3. What needs to be done for the
reaffirmation and implementation of the “spirit of Geneva” at the beginning of
the 21st century?

As every year since 1996 the conference will benefit from the participation of
the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees, as well as of other organizations such as the
International Institute of Humanitarian Law, the International Organization for
Migration and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies. As in previous years, the conference is held under the auspices of
the Government of Geneva.

We hope that you and/or your associates will be able to attend this important
convention. We thank you for your interest and look forward to greeting you at
the International Conference Center.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Otto Hieronymi
