We would be happy to support one or more strong applications from European nationals who have been working outside the UK/Europe in recent years and now want to return now to do research work in the UK/Europe. Read the eligibility rules carefully!
TARGET GROUP: European experienced or postdoctoral researchers who have been doing their research outside Europe for at least 3 years out of the last 4 (small stays like holidays do not count)
FELLOWSHIPS : 2 types of Individual Fellowships are possible depending on where the applicant is located at application stage. These are funded under the European Research Programme (FP7) and are better known as Marie Curie Fellowships:
1. Intra-European Fellowships (IEF);
2. International Reintegration Grants (IRG)

1. Intra-European Fellowships – APPLICATION WELCOME IF APPLICANT HAS NOT SPENT MORE THAN 12 MONTHS IN THE UK ALREADY
Duration: 12-24 months (1 to 2 years)
Research experience: over 4 years’ experience of research or with a PhD or equivalent
Mobility/nationality criteria: European nationals – including from the UK are eligible to apply
Application restriction: applicant must not have resided or carried out main research activity in the UK for more than 12 months in the past 3 years immediately prior to the deadline in addition to having spent 3 years out of the last 4 outside of Europe
Deadline in 2007: 14 August, 4pm UK time, electronic submission of applicant jointly with Leeds host
Grant value: Monthly living and mobility allowances - € 57304-€ 85956 depending on experience (gross salary), Travel etc.
2. International Reintegration Grants – APPLICATION WELCOME IF APPLICANT IS NOT ALREADY EMPLOYED IN EUROPE/LEEDS
Duration: 24-48 months (2 to 4 years)
Research experience: over 4 years’ experience of research or with a PhD or equivalent
Mobility/nationality criteria: European nationals – including from the UK are eligible to apply
Application restriction: applicant must not have resided or carried out main research activity in the UK for more than 12 months in the past 3 years immediately prior to the deadline in addition to having spent 3 years of main activity outside of Europe. Applicants should not be employed in research in a Member State or Associated Country at the time of the relevant cut off assessment dates.
Deadlines in 2007: continuous submission is possible, with 2 cut off dates for assessment of proposals: 25 April and 17 October.
Grant value: flat rate contribution of €25000 per year towards applicant’s salary + salaries of assistants/technicians, research costs, travel, consumables, patent and publication costs
