Meeting today's wireless communication needs: Commission presents
strategy for more flexible use of the radio spectrum (20 February 2007)A
boost for more innovative use of radio spectrum was given when the
Commission unveiled its strategy for introducing more flexible radio
frequency usage in reaction to evolving market demands. The strategy
provides concrete steps for reducing access and usage restrictions on
this critical resource for wireless communications, allowing new ideas
to flourish, and removing potential barriers to innovation, economic
growth and consumer choice.

Harmonising radio spectrum paves the way for advanced mobile satellite
services (20 February 2007)Europe-wide mobile TV, broadband data and
emergency communications are among the innovative services that will now
be possible thanks to a Commission Decision to harmonise radio spectrum
use for mobile satellite service systems. This Decision will give
industry the necessary confidence to invest in such services. They may
now even reach remote areas, where previously it was uneconomic to
deploy.

26 February 2007 Brussels, BelgiumThis event will allow potential
proposers to get a comprehensive overview of the detailed objectives of
ICT Challenge 1 and how these objectives complement each other. The
event will offer a platform to share research interests and find
partners. The morning plenary will focus on general issues, such as the
overall challenge, proposal submission, evaluation, timing and the
concept of cross-objectives proposals. In the afternoon, potential
proposers will be able to present their ideas during parallel sessions
focusing on each of the objectives.
