MANUAL FOR STREETS NATIONAL CONFERENCE AND REGIONAL SEMINARS

The Department for Transport has invited the Institution of Highways and
Transportation to run a national conference and five regional seminars
to launch their Manual for Streets. 

The national launch conference will be held on March 29th 2007 in London
at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the seminars
will follow on 9 May - Newcastle: Centre for Life, 20 June - Taunton
County Cricket Club, 21 June - Cardiff: Cardiff University, Thursday, 5
July, Coventry: Warwick Conferences, 18 July - Bolton: BWFC Reebok
Stadium.

 

The Manual is a long awaited addition to DfT guidelines it consolidates
the necessary components for effective street design into a single
integrated source of information and guidance that facilitates
professional communication and understanding. It recognises the full
range of design criteria necessary for the delivery of multi-functional
streets and ensures that practitioners have the most up to date
information available on the considerations relevant to those criteria,
including quantitative thresholds where appropriate. 

The Manual for Streets is aimed at, Planners, Highway Engineers,
Property Developers, Urban Designers, Utilities and Emergency services
members from all these professions should attend the events and hear
first hand from those involved in the development of the guidance how it
will change our street environment.
