University of Surrey

School of Arts, Communication & Humanities

Department of Culture, Media & Communication

2 x Lecturers in Communication and Media (Ref: 5785)

Salary: Lecturer A £29,138 - £31,840 per annum

             Lecturer B £32,795 - £39,160 per annum

The Department of Culture, Media and Communication seeks to appoint two
committed lecturers with demonstrable research and teaching achievements to
contribute to its rapidly expanding teaching and research portfolios. The
successful candidates will contribute to undergraduate programmes in Media,
Film and Cultural Studies, postgraduate programmes in Intercultural
Communication, Strategic Communication and Political Communication, and a
thriving PhD programme. The Department returned two 5 ratings in the 2001
RAE and is confident that it can build significantly on this success.
Research and teaching links with other Departments in the Human and Cultural
Sciences, notably Sociology, will be actively encouraged.

The Department welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates with
any specialism in Communication and Media, but particularly encourages
candidates with expertise in one or more of the following fields:
Communication and Globalisation, Political Communication, Media and Cultural
Industries, Journalism, Multiculturalism, Media and Cultural Theory,
Television Studies and Popular Culture, and Advertising.

Successful candidates will contribute to the Departmentís research strategy
and its research fora in Communication and Culture as well as to
administrative and managerial processes in our dynamic and growing
department. Appointees in the field of Political Communication will also be
given the opportunity to develop future degree provisions in these fields.
Applicants should either hold a PhD or be nearing completion and have
experience of teaching in Higher Education.

Informal inquiries can be made to Dr Helen Hughes ([log in to unmask])
