The National Preservation Office announces the latest title in its
series of Preservation Guidance leaflets, Managing the library and
archive environment. It can be downloaded from

available on request from [log in to unmask] The production of this title has
been supported by Collections Link www.collectionslink.org.uk

download.
A training day on environmental monitoring and control will be held on
19 June 2007. For details and registration see
http://www.bl.uk/services/npo/environment207.html. Participants in this
course have said "It was really interesting to hear and talk about the
different ways of collecting data and then how to interpret it", "a good
basis for establishing appropriate environmental monitoring", and that
they would "attack the situation with confidence" or "be more pro-active
in monitoring".
In Knowing the Need, the NPO's report on preservation need in UK
libraries and archives, we found that 58% of material in archives and
88% of material in libraries was not held in an appropriately monitored
and controlled environment. This is one of the most significant
preservation weaknesses we found, and we have developed this guidance
and training course to help libraries and archives initiate
improvements.
The National Preservation Office has been awarded the CILIP Seal of
Recognition based on an independent review of the content of its courses
and its engagement with the CILIP Body of Professional Knowledge.
Attendance certificates are issued on request
