Bute Medical School - Part Time Research Assistant
Salary - £26,915 pa pro rata
We wish to appoint well motivated, organised, experienced Researcher with
quantitative and qualitative research skills. You will help implement a National
Cancer Research Institute Supportive and Palliative Care (SuPaC) Research
Collaboratives funded research study on the further development of AFTER
(Adjustment to the Fears, Threat, and Expectation of Recurrence) Intervention
for cancer patients with raised fears of recurrence. The post also has strong
links with the Edinburgh Psychological Medicine and Symptoms Research group
directed by Professor Michael Sharpe. The project will take place in the
Edinburgh Cancer Centre, but your activities will be centred between Edinburgh
and St Andrews and will have close working links with Dr Gozde Ozakinci and
Professor(s) Gerry Humphris and Michael Sharpe. You will be expected to help
recruit patients and conduct both qualitative and quantitative research and
analyses.
You should have a good first degree in a relevant subject, eg psychology,
nursing, or health sciences and ideally a higher degree, involving practical
experience in health care settings. Other candidates with a proven record of
relevant health services research will also be considered. A background of
practice within the health services, especially in cancer care and experience of
undertaking a randomised trial will be an advantage. You will be able to
demonstrate excellent management, communication, negotiation, organisation
skills and the ability to work as part of a team. A high level knowledge of
ethics and research governance procedures is required.
The post is available for 2 years to start on 1 April 2007, or as soon as
possible thereafter. The hours of work will be 18.125 per week to be arranged
with the School.
