Session Abstract
The terms 'enterprise' and 'entrepreneurship' have been popularised in
academic and policy discourses over recent years, although they have come to
be associated with very specific representations. Primarily focused on
business and corporate activities, these preconceptions fail to acknowledge
the diversity of what have become key terms, buzzwords or even mantras. In
unbundling enterprise and entrepreneurship Atherton(2004) identifies
entrepreneurship as a state (i.e. being an entrepreneur) and a behaviour
(i.e. being entrepreneurial). This reconceptualisation of key terms
challenges economic geographers to (re)open debates and to explore
alternative meanings and economic practices. This session seeks to provide a
forum for engaging debates on enterprise and entrepreneurship from
traditional perspectives as well as advancing alternative approaches. By
broadening the field of study, the intention is to highlight enterprise and
entrepreneurship as complex socio-economic socio-cultural phenomena. Papers
are invited on the different aspects of enterprise and entrepreneurship -
representations, processes and practices, and are encouraged from all
social, economic and political perspectives.
At this stage all expressions of interest and abstracts should be sent to
Tim Vorley - [log in to unmask] - Deadline for Abstracts 1st March
2007.
