I have noticed that there is an e-petition (now closed) on the Government
website which stated:
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Make sharing of personal
data opt-in only."
"The government proposes to legislate to allow sharing of personal data
including tax, employment and benefit status across public bodies and give
it to private sub-contractors. I propose that this data should only be
shared if a person opts in to allow this and that the person should be
informed of whom it is shared with."
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Data-opt-in/
It received 51 supporters.
The creator apparently gave a very short time for the petition to remain
open.
