Dear Lachlan,
The third REV newsletter, pasted below, has just been distributed (and
the entry page of the REV web site has been updated accordingly). The
cultural / social activities tip in this newsletter was the Casa da
Musica (House of Music), a magnificent concert-hall that was inaugurated
two years ago, and immediately became a landmark of Porto. REV 2007 will
be interesting for its technical content, but there will be more than
just science for our visitors! Your help as always is highly appreciated
- please forward the newsletter to your mailing lists.
Thanks for your help, Jose.

Subject: [rev-list] REV2007 newsletter: Keynote address on blended
learningfor industy
This is the third of a series of newsletters highlighting events of the
2007 edition of the Remote Engineering and Virtual Instrumentation
International Conference, which will take place in Porto (Portugal) from
June 25th - 27th (social program on June 24th). The conference web site
at http://eu-lab.net/rev is updated simultaneously with the distribution
of this newsletter and provides further information about the event
referred below.
Keynote address by Dr. Ulrich Karras (Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG)
Blended Learning for Industry - Visions, Concepts, Realizations There is
a tremendous growth of qualification needs, to be provided in shorter
time and at any location, any time. Such requirements demand a worldwide
economy of shareable learning scenarios, able to enhance engineering
education in a broad range. This talk will describe the realization of a
Blended Learning scenario, in the form of a university-managed lab, open
to other universities and colleges, providing a rather powerful factory
automation system, including PLC controlled mechatronic applications,
robots, storage, conveyor system, etc. The talk will discuss how to
build up a software and communication network to create a blended
learning scenario for all of them, and it will also include live
demonstrations.
Read more about this keynote address by Dr. Ulrich Karras by visiting
the conference web site at http://eu-lab.net/rev.
We take this opportunity to remind you that the submission deadline for
REV 2007 is March 25th. Please consider this opportunity to share your
work by participating in this exciting event in the city that hosts Rem
Koolhaas' Casa da Musica, "one of the most important concert halls built
in the last 100 years".
Looking forward to meeting you in Porto, J. M. Martins Ferreira,
Conference Chair.
