A PhD position is available for 3 years at the Institute of
Geosciences of the University of Tuebingen, from April - June 2007
onwards.
Topic: Biomechanics of sea-urchin skeletons
The candidate will address the biomechanical properties of echinoid
skeletons from various taxa at different size scales. The results will
be considered within an ecological, phylogenetic and technical
context. Candidates should have a good understanding of biological
preparation techniques, experience with the scanning electron
microscopy as well as show willingness to participate in cooperative
research involving other scientific fields (biomechanics, mineralogy,
