Statistician
The MRC Epidemiology Unit in Cambridge was set up in October 2003 to study the genetic and environmental determinants of obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders. For further information about the Unit please visit www.mrc.epid.acm.ac.uk.
Applications are invited for a Statistician to work as part of the Interact project funded by the European Commission to study the interaction of genetic and lifestyle factors on the incidence of Type 2 diabetes.
The primary purpose of the role will be to develop and implement methods for the meta-analysis of gene-lifestyle interaction data from various clinical trials and observational studies.
In addition, you will be expected to contribute to applied methodological research in the area of statistical genetics, in collaboration with other members of the Epidemiology Unit.
You should hold a Masters Degree or equivalent in statistics or a related subject, with experience (either through further academic study or practically in a working environment) in the development and application of statistical methods for the analysis of data.
You should have previous experience using at least one of the following statistical packages: Stata, SAS, S-Plus, R.
You should also possess excellent communication & time management skills and be able to work with a high degree of independence.
Experience working with epidemiological and/or genetics data is desirable but not essential.
This is a permanent position with a starting salary in the region of £24,746 - £30,945 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This is supported by a flexible pay and reward policy.
This position is 36 hours per week and we offer 30 days holiday entitlement and the option of joining our MRC final salary Pension Scheme.
