The Royal Society, the UK’s premier scientific body, has a vacancy in its
science policy section which provides an excellent opportunity for a
talented and motivated individual to work with some of the UK’s best
scientists and other experts to contribute to the Society’s work in
influencing national and international policy.
Science Policy Officer – Innovation (Ref: V02.07)
12 month Maternity cover from mid-March 2007
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to contribute to our work in
the area of exploitation of university research, and innovation more
generally. The post holder will work with the Innovation Manager on the
development and execution of new projects focusing on issues such as:
scientific entrepreneurship; protection and exploitation of intellectual
property; barriers and incentives relating to knowledge transfer from
universities; and UK and EU funding schemes aimed at promoting innovation
and knowledge transfer. They will also work with the science base team on
our major project on whether Science Higher Education will be fit for
purpose in 2015 and beyond.
You will have experience of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and be
able to interact effectively with people at all levels. The ability to
transmit complex ideas effectively, in writing and orally, is also
essential. A first degree or equivalent, in a science, engineering,
economics or social science discipline, plus employment in a relevant post,
is likely to have provided sufficient opportunities to assimilate the
appropriate knowledge and skills.
