Dear Matt, a warm hello from a cold Japan. It is below freezing here
and the sky is a crystal blue, I just wish I could reproduce such a
colour when I paint, sigh! I read your posting with keen interest. I
am looking forward to hear of your accounts to how you negotiate your
evidence on compliance with learning out comes of your curriculum. The
strategies you develop that include your students’ ideas. Do you use
learning contracts, if so how do you phrase them? Do you use portfolio?
I am excited about portfolio evidence in that it can offer mediums of
expression that are holistic. My understanding of holistic learning is
that it has to engage all the senses in praxis and in so doing is
inclusional. As the expression of the students’ learning emerges in
their practice of portfolio building, the medium of their expression
can be such an insight to their learning
I am deeply conscious of the problems with assessment of portfolios and
the need to provide clear guide lines to both the students and the
assessors as to what the learning outcomes will look like. Do you have
any ideas how you will use an action research approach?
With respect
Je Kan
