'individual collections' begs the image of a sort of mini profile page of
each p&c.-er as well, for me. it would be a good reference for [new] people
on the list (I don't know who half the people here even are, or what their
voices are like, or anything; with some sort of overview of each participant
there'd be a place to 'check') & a peachy little intro-bunch-nook for
nonlisters who pass by. in this same vein, I think 'collection' may be a
little strong; maybe just a selection of a few poems each? publication would
of course be a different issue altogether; I'm not super enthusiastic about
internet publication, or kind of consider is a mild oxymoron. accessibility
is great, but not when something is too accessible. with a magazine or
anthology, you have to physically travel to each page, while a site just has
everything out at once. it all feels too easy. (this coming from someone who
has spent the last three years on an art site of sorts, 'doing the
literature thing')
I'm all for cement with international connexions; though I'm personally
slightly skeptical about the value of culture in poetry; that is, I think
it's usually overstated. poetry is 100% technical ability; a good poem has
to be written well. it goes without saying that there needs to be a
dimension/essense/idea/voice to make the technical presentation worth
anything. what different cultures provide is breadth & interest & insight --
something that different poets from just one culture also provide. variety
is inevitable, & all I'm saying (by way of this little sidetrack..) is that
I'm not especially interested in exploring different countries through
writing. not that I'd mind at all; but the world is a melting pot as it is,
& we all write in english after all. if a collection were to be 'sold' with
some characteristic, I'd rather it be with the good poetry ticket rather
than the internationality ticket.
not saying anything to the contrary has been suggested; I'm just rambling to
be honest. :) plans sound great Andrew.
re: snaps
I've had a sort of problem with this, or with my conception of what 'snaps'
even are; because my introduction to the term came through an archive of the
adroit mr. Mcmanus, the words "snapshots project" acted as a header for
those. but after coming here & seeing some (& posting some, though I doubt
many people have noticed), it now appears that 'snaps' are bascially jots or
notes or drafts. maybe the trouble I have has to do with the fact that I
don't need any prompt; I've found my pace, or my mindset towards pace in
general, so a once-a-week meme would be more likely to disrupt than aid my
writing, were I to adhere to it.
ANYWAY. sounds good & let's keep on keeping on.
