italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Arnold,
Looks very interesting. I of course know nothing about this, but I do have one basic question: Isn't every equestrian statue in Italy after, say, Rome and the 6C, Garibaldi? I think there were some in the 1600s, though it seems hardly possible. In Milan I think there are two within 6 blocks, though I may be wrong. Alan

===========================================
Hello all:
As you may know, 2007 marks the bicentenary of Garibaldi's birth.
Bearing that in mind, I'm seeking papers for a panel (or panels) that
I'm proposing on "Britain, Garibaldi, & the Risorgimento" for the North
American Conference on British Studies, which meets in San Francisco
9-11 November 2007.
I'd like the panel(s) to take an interdisciplinary approach to the topic
and so, if possible, to include scholars working in such areas as Art
History/Visual Culture/Film, History, Italian Studies, Literature,
Political Science, and Sociology.
While I remain open to papers on any aspect of "Britain, Garibaldi, the
Risorgimento," I'd like to see papers which address such topics as:
Garibaldi's Visit to London
Garibaldi & the Risorgimento as portrayed in British Journalism (e.g.
"The Illustrated London News")
Garibaldi in British Art & Literature
Britons Fighting for Italian Nationalism
Italy & Nineteenth-Century British Foreign Policy
The Risorgimento as Parliamentary Campaign Issue
Holland House & Italian Refugees/Exiles
British Memoirs & Contemporary Biographies of Garibaldi
Your proposal should include a title, a paper abstract (200-300 words),
an email address, a mailing address, and a brief (1-2 page) CV. It can
be sent to me via email to [log in to unmask] or by "snail mail" to
Arnold A. Schmidt, Ph.D.

Because I must submit the panel proposal materials by 16 February, I
must receive submissions by 12 February.
