Please find attached two NISP Studentships currently being developed by
University of Surrey to undertake research for an Engineering Doctorate
-.
1) "Incorporating Industrial Symbiosis into Regional Resource Planning:
framework development and interactive support tools" - Working within
the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme the project aims to design
and develop a suitable framework and toolkit extending conventional
regional resource planning (RRP) models to incorporate the synergistic
influences of industrial symbiosis throughout the UK. In developing the
toolkit the project will build a suite of interactive DSS tools
(employing data mapping and GIS technology) for active regional resource
analysis, identifying 'hot-spots' for energy, water and resource
consumption whilst supporting the visual identification and development
of potential industrial symbiosis.
2) "Multi-Criteria Decision Support Tools for Industrial Symbiosis
Synergy Development" - Working within the National Industrial Symbiosis
Programme this research project aims to identify and analyse the complex
and often coupled criteria which enable IS synergies to be successfully
develop and maintained long-term. This project will develop a model for
synergy optimisation which considers supply chain efficiency, optimal
use of the recovered resource, and long-term socio-economic impact on
the companies involved. The project will ultimately design and build a
suite of interactive software based tools in support of the
multi-criteria decision support framework to support long-term
sustainable industrial systems through Industrial Symbiosis.
