MRC Capacity Building PhD Studentship (Institute of Child Health, University
College London)
An MRC-funded Capacity Building PhD studentship commencing in October 2007
is available based within the newly formed
MRC Centre of Epidemiology for Child Health at the UCL Institute of Child
Health
Funding: The student will receive a stipend of £16,709 in the first year,
£17,076 in the second year
and £17,453 in the third year (including London allowance). All University
fees will be paid by the MRC.
Additionally the student will be allocated £1,000 per annum towards
equipment costs, and £300 per annum
for conference attendances.
Project title: Models for discrete epidemiological and clinical data
Project outline: The aim of this project is to develop methodology for
analyzing discrete data that commonly occur
within the field of child health research. This project will bridge the gap
between models which allow
using covariates to fit relatively simple distributional models (e.g.
Poisson or negative binomial)
and discrete distributions resulting from more complex assumptions. These
models include component-mix
and parameter-mix distributions, value-inflated models, and generalized
Poisson models
as well as extensions for longitudinal designs and multivariate responses.
The project offers opportunities
for collaborating with clinical colleagues in Great Ormond Street Hospital
for Children NHS Trust.
