The 3rd Hellenic Observatory PhD Symposium
Contemporary Greece: Structures, Context and Challenges
14 & 15 June 2007
London School of Economics and Political Science
Call for Papers
We invite submissions for the 3rd PhD symposium on ‘Contemporary Greece:
Structures, Context and Challenges’. A main objective of the symposium is
to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas between young scholars
currently undertaking research on Greece. The 3rd symposium, as with the
previous two, is intended to help graduate research students to overcome
the academic isolation associated to PhD research, to ‘try’ their ideas and
findings on wider audiences, and to establish new collaborative links
across disciplines. Researchers will also be able to ‘engage’ with a wider
academic community, including academic members of staff at the LSE, and
also a number of other distinguished scholars who will act as keynote
speakers and discussants to the symposium.
We welcome contributions from research students (current and recent) across
any field of the Social Sciences and Humanities whose PhD focuses on
contemporary Greece. The topics covered in the symposium include, but are
not limited to:
· Media and Public Perceptions
· Foreign Policy
· Public Policy (including welfare, education, and social policies)
· Economic Policy (including labour market, industrial, and regional
policies)
· Economic Problems and Performance (including macro/micro economics
and finance)
· Greece and Southeast Europe (including economic and political
cooperation and energy)
· Domestic and EU politics
· Migration and Minorities
· History and Culture
· State and Society
Abstracts of 500 words maximum must be submitted via the ‘paper proposal’
form. Abstracts should indicate the academic significance of the topic,
relevance of conceptual literature, and analytical structure. A limited
number of travel grants of £200 maximum will be available to the
contributors. The deadline for the submission of the abstracts and for
application for the travel grants is 12 March 2007. Postgraduates can apply
for the travel grant by filling the appropriate section of the ‘paper
proposal’ form. The ‘paper proposal’ form can be downloaded from:
http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/hellenicObservatory. Submissions can be
made by email only to: [log in to unmask]
